Building on Ice in Antarctica – Andy Smith – 15th April

halleyvi_14We’ve only just got rid of the snow in Sheffield and we are off to the Antarctic where the temperature rarely gets above minus 6 Centigrade! However we were in for treat with some splendid pictures which revealed the major difficulties of building a research base on top of ice. Ultimately it gets covered and becomes part of the ice flow and then an iceberg! The current station at Halley is version 6 and a real space age looking building it is. Andy had been to all of its predecessors and as always Stumperlowe members were full of questions!
